東京都美術館のアート・コミュニケーション事業の活動について広く発信することを目的に、2023年から「アート・コミュニケーション事業を体験する」を始めました。２年目となる本年はクリエイティブ・エイジングをテーマに掲げ、豊かに歳を重ねていくために、アートが果たす力や美術館の役割について考える機会とします。

本展では画家の上田薫とキルト作家の上田葉子の作品展示に加えて、超高齢社会に対応したミュージアムの取組みについて紹介する資料展示を行います。また、東京都美術館で2021年にスタートした「Creative Ageing ずっとび」の紹介やその活動基盤となるアート・コミュニケーション事業の紹介展示も行います。

会場では、とびらプロジェクトで活動するアート・コミュニケータ（愛称：とびラー）と、３年間の任期を満了したとびラーが来場者を迎え、さまざまなアート・コミュニケーションが楽しめる機会を作ります。

To widely disseminate the Art Communications Programs it launched in 2012 and let people experience them, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is annually holding “Welcome to Art Communications Programs” as of 2023. Returning for its second season, this year, the exhibition will take the theme of “Creative Aging” and provide opportunities to think about the power of art and the role museums can play in helping people age with richness.

Along with works by painter Kaoru Ueda and quilt artist Yoko Ueda, the exhibition will additionally showcase materials documenting efforts by this museum and museums in other countries to meet the needs of super-aging society, such as the “Creative Ageing ZUTTOBI” project, begun at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2021. It will also exhibit archival materials related to Art Communication Programs forming the basis of ZUTTOBI activities.

Art communicators (Tobira) engaged in the Tobira Project will be joined by Tobira who have already completed their 3-year term of involvement to welcome visitors and create fun opportunities for them to communicate through artworks.

キルト作品についてのお話や、上田薫さんとの日常、制作の様子についてなど、会場の作品をみながらお話していきます。

◆ワークショップ「布と糸でウミウシを作ろう！」（要事前申込：8/10（土）14:00～16:00）

上田薫さんの作品のモチーフに登場する、カラフルな「ウミウシ」を、布と糸で作るワークショップです。つくったウミウシは、チャームにして持ち帰ることができます。
講師の上田葉子さんと一緒に、あなただけのウミウシを作ってみませんか？

このワークショップでは、さいほう道具（針と糸、はさみなど）、ミシン、アイロンを使用します。小学生の方は、必ず保護者同伴で参加してください。

◆　作家プロフィール　◆

◆上田薫（うえだ かおる）
1928年東京に生まれる。1954年東京藝術大学を卒業後、抽象画家として活動を始める一方、1960年に自身のデザイン会社を設立し、約10年間グラフィックデザイナーとしての仕事に専念する。1960年代後半には再び絵画制作に取り掛かり、なま卵やゼリーなど身近なモチーフを選び、写真を使って対象を精巧に描き出す独自の写実表現を確立する。2020年頃から心不全で入退院が増え、心臓弁膜症のカテーテル手術を受ける。手術は成功したが、コロナ禍での入院などで、認知機能が衰え出す。工程の多い油彩や以前のようなリアルな表現が難しくなり、リハビリとして身近な植物や昆虫、爬虫類や海の生き物などのスケッチやイラストを色鉛筆で描いている。

◆上田葉子（うえだ ようこ）
幼少期よりテキスタイルに興味を持ち、10歳よりミシンソーイングを始める。女子美術大学で美術を学び、画家 上田薫と結婚後、キルトを始める。キルトにおける配色、デザイン、ミシンテクニックを独自に研究、指導も行う。配色でのカラーセラピーやアロマテラピーとの併用も展開し、作品は、ヒーリングアートとしても使われ、医療施設や、パブリックスペース、ホテルなどでも用いられている。国内外で作品発表、講習会の講師を務める。NHKや、民放などでTV出演多数。近年は簡単に取り組めるサスティナブルなソーイングや、キルトを気楽に楽しめる教材作り、人材育成にも力を注いでいる。

◆　Featured Artist Profiles　◆

◆Kaoru Ueda
Kaoru Ueda was born in Tokyo in 1928. After graduating from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (now Tokyo University of the Arts) in 1954, he began his career as an abstract artist. Thereafter, in 1960, Ueda founded a design company and worked as a graphic designer for some 10 years. Returning to painting in the late 1960s, he established his unique style of hyper-realistic work depicting familiar motifs such as raw eggs and jelly based on reference to photographs. Around 2020, Ueda was repeatedly hospitalized for heart failure and underwent cardiac catheterization for valvular heart disease. The operation was successful, but his cognitive function declined due to hospitalization during the Covid-19 epidemic and other factors. Although no longer capable of the elaborate art technique of his earlier years, he has continued to create sketches and illustrations of plants, insects, reptiles, and marine animals using color pencils, as a form of rehabilitation.

◆Yoko Ueda
Interested in textiles as a young child, Yoko Ueda started using a sewing machine at the age of 10. After studying art at Joshibi University of Art and Design and marrying painter Kaoru Ueda, she began quilting. She is now actively researching and teaching quilting color schemes, design, and sewing techniques. She additionally combines color schemes with color therapy and aromatherapy in works used as “healing art,” displayed in medical facilities, public spaces, hotels, and other venues. While exhibiting her art in Japan and abroad, she has worked as a lecturer. Ueda has appeared in television programs for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and commercial broadcasts. In recent years, she is developing easy-to-use, sustainable sewing tools and learning materials that enable people to enjoy quilting with ease, and devoting her energy to fostering human resources.
